According to Russian news agency TASS, explosions heard on Iran’s Qeshm Island on July 17 were not the result of a hostile attack, but were linked to activity in the Strait of Hormuz. TASS reported that the Tasnim news agency dismissed speculation that the island had been struck, noting the sounds were related to maritime operations in the surrounding waters.
An eyewitness, speaking to a Tasnim correspondent, confirmed that the noises were connected to the Strait of Hormuz and that Qeshm Island itself was not targeted by an assault. The interview emphasized that the blasts were likely caused by vessels passing through or conducting routine activities in the Gulf.
Earlier, the IRNA news agency had reported that explosions had taken place in the eastern part of Qeshm Island, but it had not clarified the cause. The current statement from Tasnim effectively distances the event from any intentional attack.
The TASS report therefore presents the view that the blasts were incidental and maritime in nature, with no evidence of hostile intent behind them.
