A Spanish tourist filmed himself pouring beer down an elephant's trunk in Kenya, sparking widespread outrage on social media and prompting multiple investigations.

The controversial footage revealed the man in a wildlife reservation enjoying a can of Tusker beer before giving the elephant the remaining drink. His Instagram caption read, 'Just a tusker with a tusked friend,' which subsequently drew significant backlash from Kenyan viewers, leading to the post's removal.

According to sources, the scene was authenticated by the BBC, indicating it took place at the Ol Jogi Conservancy in Laikipia County, which is home to about 500 elephants and works on animal rehabilitation.

Staff from the conservancy expressed shock at the behavior, emphasizing that such actions are against conservation efforts and should not occur. Meanwhile, the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) has confirmed ongoing investigations into the incident.

Critics on social media condemned the act, calling for the man’s deportation, emphasizing that it endangered both the tourist and the elephant. Conservationists noted that about 95% of elephants in Kenya are wild, and posing and interacting with them inappropriately sends dangerous messages about wildlife encounters.

This incident follows another controversial event in which tourists obstructed migrating wildebeest in the Maasai Mara, leading to new regulations aiming to protect wildlife and improve tourist guidelines.

Efforts are being made to enhance visitor education and implement stricter enforcement of park rules, ensuring responsible interactions between tourists and wildlife.
