Australian police are intensifying efforts to locate Dezi Freeman, a heavily armed suspect in a tragic case involving the deaths of two officers in Porepunkah, Victoria. The incident occurred when ten officers approached the rural property to execute a warrant related to alleged sexual offences. Freeman, 56, opened fire, resulting in the fatalities of a 59-year-old detective and a 35-year-old constable. Nearly 24 hours after the shooting, Freeman has not been found, and police have warned the community to remain vigilant and indoors during the search. The Chief Commissioner of Victoria Police, Mike Bush, emphasized that extensive resources are being directed towards locating Freeman, who is considered dangerous and familiar with the dense bushland surrounding the area. Previous reports suggesting that Freeman may have taken his family hostage have been addressed, with police confirming that his partner and children are safe. The investigation continues as authorities explore the possibility that he may have fled the state.
