Israeli drone strikes near Damascus have killed six Syrian soldiers, Syria's government said, among a series of reported attacks this week.
Syria's foreign ministry condemned Tuesday's strike as a violation of international law and a breach of its sovereignty.
After more strikes on Wednesday, Israeli forces carried out an airborne landing at a former military site in the area, according to international and Syrian state media. Reports differ on what occurred during the operation and how long the Israeli forces remained.
Israel's military did not comment on these reports, but Defense Minister Israel Katz stated on X that forces are operating in all combat zones day and night for the security of Israel.
Israel has conducted numerous air strikes across Syria since the fall of former President Bashar al-Assad, claiming these operations are necessary to prevent weapons from falling into the hands of extremist groups. This year alone, Israel has reportedly carried out 95 attacks, including 85 airstrikes and 10 land operations.
Tuesday's attack occurred while Syrian troops were dealing with surveillance equipment discovered near al-Kiswah, according to the Syrian state news agency.
The continued air strikes align with reports of heightened military engagement in the region, exacerbating tensions as both countries engage in deconfliction discussions. The situation remains precarious, with international observers watching closely as developments unfold.
