During the talks, which are set to take place on Tuesday, Ukrainian officials plan to propose a truce focused on aerial and naval operations, according to statements made by a Ukrainian spokesperson. Despite this, Russian representatives have previously dismissed the idea of a temporary ceasefire, labeling it a tactic to postpone hostilities until Ukraine's military diminishes.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky arrived in Saudi Arabia with the aim of engaging with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. While not directly participating in the talks with U.S. officials, Zelensky's presence indicates the high level of diplomatic engagement surrounding the negotiations. The Ukrainian delegation includes key figures like Andriy Yermak, head of the Presidential Office, alongside national security and defense ministers.

Signs from the talks have prompted positive expectations, including discussions about a potential minerals deal between Ukraine and the U.S.

Moreover, key allies are watching closely, with UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer expressing hope for a constructive outcome that could restore U.S. aid and intelligence cooperation. The ongoing conflict, which began with Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, continues to impact strategic discussions and international relations.
