Lithuanian authorities have announced that an arson attack on an Ikea store in Vilnius last year has been attributed to Russia's military intelligence service, the GRU. Prosecutor Arturas Urbelis characterized the incident as a "terrorist act," and confirmed that two Ukrainian teenagers, arrested in Lithuania and Poland respectively, were involved. According to Urbelis, the investigations revealed connections to Russia's security services, casting a shadow over the broader security climate in Europe.

Poland’s Prime Minister, Donald Tusk, has expressed support for Lithuania's findings, stating that they validate suspicions of Russian operatives being behind similar arson incidents targeting shopping centers in both Vilnius and Warsaw. The arrested teenagers reportedly convened in Warsaw to strategize the arson attempt, motivated by a financial incentive of €10,000 and a luxury car. The incidents point to a worrying trend of escalating tensions between Eastern European nations and Russia, impacting both regional security and international relations.
