Rute Cardoso, the wife of Liverpool forward Diogo Jota, has shared a touching tribute on social media to mark what would have been their first month of marriage, just three weeks after the tragic death of her husband in a car crash. On Instagram, Cardoso posted photographs from their wedding day on June 22, accompanied by the poignant caption, "one month of our 'until death do us part'" and expressing that she was "forever" his.

Diogo Jota, 28, lost his life on July 3 when a Lamborghini, in which he was a passenger alongside his younger brother, Andre Silva, suffered a tyre blow-out, leading to a crash and subsequent fire in the Cernadilla area of Zamora, Spain.

Jota joined Liverpool from Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2020, where he quickly made a name for himself, scoring 65 goals in 182 appearances. His contributions to the team were significant, helping them secure the FA Cup and League Cup in 2022, and again winning the League Cup in 2024, in addition to the Premier League title in the previous season.

To honor Jota's memory, Liverpool FC has made the decision to retire the number 20 shirt he wore during his time at the club. Fans have also come together to create a mural near Anfield, displaying his number along with messages of condolence and remembrance from the Liverpool community.
