Russia has carried out a massive overnight attack on 14 regions of Ukraine, authorities stated, while Kyiv reported drone strikes on Russian oil refineries. The assault left one woman dead in the Zaporizhzhia region and injured 30 others, including children.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky indicated that Russia launched approximately 540 drones and 45 missiles, urging the implementation of stricter sanctions against Moscow. In response, the Russian defense ministry claimed that all targets of their strikes were successfully hit, although this assertion has not been substantiated by independent sources.

The recent barrage coincides with ongoing international efforts to negotiate a peace deal as the conflict, initiated by Russia's full-scale invasion in 2022, continues to rage. This latest attack marks the second significant escalation following an earlier incident in which 25 people were reported killed during one of the largest aerial assaults of the war.

In the Dnipropetrovsk region, officials reported multiple strikes on infrastructure, with damage to residential buildings and shopping centers. Fortunately, no casualties were reported from these assaults, although there were injuries from previous drone strikes earlier in the week.

Reports from the Ukrainian military indicated successful attacks on oil refineries located in Krasnodar and Syzran, both of which had previously been targeted. The military noted significant explosions and fires at those facilities, with Russian officials confirming some damage but no casualties.

Moreover, while Ukraine's military asserts that it has managed to inflict damage on Russian energy production capabilities, the continued offensive by Russian forces, particularly in the eastern Donetsk region, underscores the ongoing and fierce nature of the conflict.

In light of these developments, diplomatic discussions among European foreign ministers are currently underway, focusing on escalating sanctions against Russian assets amounting to about €210bn, amid assertions that Russia remains unyielding in its military ambitions.

As the conflict continues, both sides remain resolute, with Zelensky calling for global action against Russia while reinforcing Ukraine's military strategies in the face of ongoing threats.
