Florida Man Swallows Stolen Tiffany Earrings Before Arrest
A 32-year-old man allegedly swallowed high-value earrings from Tiffany & Co. in a bizarre theft attempt before being apprehended by police.
An alleged thief in Florida is accused of swallowing stolen earrings worth more than half a million dollars moments before his arrest by police. Jaythan Gilder, 32, is said to have entered a Tiffany & Co. store in Orlando, claiming to represent "a professional athlete," which led employees to showcase several high-value items. Allegedly, Gilder took two pairs of earrings, valued at approximately $769,500 (£597,000), and fled the store, reportedly dropping a diamond ring in the process.
Police apprehended Gilder later the same day and witnessed him "swallowing several objects believed to be the stolen earrings," according to their report. An x-ray released by the authorities allegedly shows an individual's abdomen containing a foreign object that aligns with the size of the stolen jewelry. However, police have not confirmed whether they have successfully retrieved the jewelry.
This is not Gilder's first encounter with law enforcement; he was previously linked to a theft from Tiffany & Co. in Texas in 2022. Furthermore, he has 48 separate warrants for his arrest in neighboring Colorado. Gilder faces serious charges, including robbery while masked and grand theft in the first degree, due to the stolen goods exceeding $100,000 in value. He is currently presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
