Melania Trump Statue Stolen in Slovenia: Investigating the Mystery

The theft of a life-sized bronze statue of Melania Trump, located near her birthplace in Sevnica, Slovenia, has initiated an ongoing police investigation and stirred various opinions among locals regarding its disappearance.

The bronze statue of the former first lady, erected just outside Sevnica, has been reported missing as of Tuesday, and the police have started an investigation. According to Alenka Drenik, a police spokeswoman, although the precise timing of the theft remains unclear, assessments are currently being conducted. Residents of the small town, home to approximately 5,000 people, share mixed theories regarding the incident—some suspect it might be vandalism while others suggest it could have been melted down for its material value. Remarkably, none of those interviewed attributed any political motives to the statue's theft.

"Melania is rarely seen in the spotlight or anywhere else...,” expressed Igor Pavkovic, a lifelong Sevnica resident who humorously recalled his first encounter with the statue. The bronze rendition, featuring a stiff expression and a tight wave, failed to resonate deeply with the local populace. Originally crafted from wood and unveiled in a rather unconventional style by an artist using a chainsaw, the statue has garnered mixed reactions since its debut in 2019.
