ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — A man admitted to killing and burying his parents eight years ago in the backyard of their upstate New York home during a television interview this week, leading to his arrest as he left the studio. The stunning on-camera confession from Lorenz Kraus, 53, came Thursday, a day after police say they recovered two bodies from the home in Albany. Initially, authorities were investigating the disappearance of his parents, Franz and Theresia Kraus, who had not been seen in years but were still receiving Social Security payments. In a half-hour interview with local news outlet CBS6, Kraus described the deaths as mercy killings for his aging and ailing parents, claiming that he was fulfilling his duty. However, he hesitated to admit to the killings outright but eventually said, 'I did my duty to my parents,' and expressed that his concern for their misery was paramount. Kraus was arrested moments after the interview and charged with two counts of murder. During a court appearance, a public defender entered a not guilty plea on his behalf. The discovery of the bodies in Kraus's yard came as part of a financial investigation, where authorities uncovered that he had been collecting his parents' benefits for personal use. The identities of the deceased are still being confirmed, but they are believed to be Kraus's parents, aged 92 and 83.
