Bollywood Star Saif Ali Khan Injured in Knife Attack, Suspect Detained

In a shocking incident early Thursday morning, Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan was attacked at his residence in the upscale Bandra area of Mumbai. Police have confirmed the detention of a male suspect in connection with the knife assault, though it remains unclear if he was the actual assailant. As reported, Khan was injured during a confrontation with an unidentified intruder who allegedly sought to steal a significant amount of money, reportedly demanding 10 million rupees (approximately $115,000).

The attack unfolded just after midnight when Eliyama Philip, a caregiver for Khan's young son, noticed a figure near the bathroom. In her testimony to the police, Philip described the assailant as armed with both a long blade and a wooden object, warning her and her colleague to stay silent. As the scuffle broke out, Philip sustained injuries, while Khan and his wife, actress Kareena Kapoor, confronted the attacker. The situation escalated quickly, resulting in Khan sustaining multiple stab wounds, including a severe one to his neck.

Upon arrival at Lilavati Hospital, Khan's condition was critical with a knife fragment lodged in his spine, which was successfully removed during surgery. Hospital staff have since reported improvements in his health, stating that he has been moved out of the ICU and is advised to take several weeks of rest and limited mobility.

Meanwhile, Mumbai police are actively investigating the intrusion, having seized CCTV footage from Khan's residence during the incident. They have sent a visual of the fleeing suspect to the media to assist in the investigation. Deputy Commissioner Dixit Gadam noted that the attacker gained access via a fire escape ladder and emphasized the need to further understand how security may have been compromised.

Khan, 54, has been a prominent figure in the Bollywood film industry, known for his roles in both films and television. Having won numerous accolades, including the prestigious Padma Shri award in 2010, his celebrity status adds another layer of concern regarding the implications of this attack on safety within the entertainment sector.
