Andrew Tate Detained for Speeding Violation in Romania
Influencer Andrew Tate fined for extreme speeding while under legal scrutiny for more serious allegations.
Controversial social media influencer Andrew Tate has once again found himself in hot water, this time for a speeding violation in Romania. Authorities reported that the British-American national was clocked driving at a staggering 196 km/h (121 mph) in a zone limited to 50 km/h. This incident occurred in a rural area approximately 184 km from Romania's capital, Bucharest.
Tate, who also has his brother Tristan facing various charges such as rape and human trafficking, has been fined £310 ($420) and had his driving privileges suspended for 120 days due to the severity of his offense, according to police statements. While the Tate brothers vehemently deny all allegations against them, they remain under court-imposed travel restrictions within Romania as their cases progress.
The speeding incident occurred on a recent Saturday in the village of Bujoreni, where local police underscored that excessive speed is among the principal factors contributing to road fatalities in Romania. This is not the first instance of Tate facing legal repercussions related to his driving habits; he previously was cited for speeding in 2021 near Bucharest and had another violation reported in Germany a year before that.
Known for his flaunting of luxury vehicles including Bugattis and Lamborghinis, the former kickboxing champion has garnered millions of followers online, where he often blends political commentary with displays of wealth. His provocations on social media continue to draw both attention and controversy.
Romanian authorities also seized several of his high-end cars in 2023 amidst ongoing legal proceedings, highlighting the impact his legal controversies have on his lifestyle. Tate has publicly criticized the British police for their stance against accepting bribes during traffic stops, suggesting that these attitudes prompted his relocation of business operations to Romania in 2017. Believing that corruption offers a path to freedom, he has stated, “If corruption exists, which it does, let us all play.”
Looking ahead, Andrew and Tristan Tate are expected to return to the UK to confront a total of 21 criminal charges once their ongoing proceedings in Romania conclude. Additionally, they face a separate civil lawsuit in the United States brought by four women claiming they were coerced into sex work. Despite the mounting allegations, both brothers continue to assert their innocence in all matters pertaining to their criminal affairs.
