President Donald Trump has said US forces conducted a lethal kinetic strike on a vessel which he claimed was involved in drug trafficking, killing three male narcoterrorists on board.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump detailed that he ordered the attack in the US Southern Command's operational area, following intelligence that confirmed the vessel was trafficking illicit drugs. This operation marks the third strike against alleged drug boats in recent weeks.
According to Trump, the strike occurred in international waters, which the Southern Command oversees, covering much of South America and the Caribbean. Previously conducted strikes have reportedly resulted in the deaths of 14 individuals across two other vessels believed to belong to Venezuela.
Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro has condemned the US strikes, asserting that his government will take measures to protect its sovereignty against what he terms US aggression. Trump's communication mirrored prior announcements, showcasing footage of the vessel before and after the strike, which concluded with the boat exploding in flames.
Trump's declaration emphasized the dire nature of the narcotics trade, stating, STOP SELLING FENTANYL, NARCOTICS, AND ILLEGAL DRUGS IN AMERICA, AND COMMITTING VIOLENCE AND TERRORISM AGAINST AMERICANS!!! However, legal experts pointed out that the strike may breach international human rights and maritime laws.
