Swedish Prosecutors Finalize Investigation Linked to Mbappé
Inquiry regarding alleged rape closed due to insufficient evidence, with football star Kylian Mbappé's name circulating in media speculation.
The Swedish Prosecution Authority has officially closed an investigation into an alleged rape incident, which had previously been connected to Kylian Mbappé, the captain of the French national football team. According to Marina Chirakova, the senior prosecutor overseeing the case, the investigation ended as a result of insufficient evidence. Importantly, Mbappé was never publicly named by prosecutors or informed he was a suspect in any crime.
The controversy began in October when allegations emerged regarding an alleged attack reported to have occurred in a Stockholm hotel on October 10. Several Swedish media outlets, including Aftonbladet and Expressen, identified Mbappé as a potential suspect at the time, with police reportedly retrieving evidence from the Bank hotel where he was staying.
In response to these allegations, Mbappé's legal counsel stated that the charges were baseless and advised that the star footballer was preparing to defend his reputation against what they deemed defamatory reports. Mbappé himself dismissed the allegations as "fake news," asserting that he had not received any official summons or notification from the authorities regarding the investigation.
On a French television program, Mbappé reiterated his position: "I haven't received anything, no summons... I'm not involved." His lawyer, Marie-Alix Canu-Bernard, stated that Mbappé is a public figure who is aware of his surroundings and does not engage in risky behavior.
Following the closure of the investigation, Mbappé continues to maintain his status as one of football's elite, having recently scored his 50th Champions League goal after transferring to Real Madrid from Paris Saint-Germain. He gained international fame after helping lead France to a World Cup victory in 2018 and remains a key figure in global football discussions.
