A 15-year-old suspect is in custody following a tragic shooting that claimed the lives of five in Fall City, Washington.
A 15-year-old boy is currently in custody following a devastating shooting incident that took place early Monday morning in Fall City, Washington, resulting in the deaths of five people, two adults and three teenagers. According to Mike Mellis of the King County Sheriff's Office, the shooting stemmed from a "disturbance with gunfire" at a residence near Seattle.
The victims have not been officially identified by authorities, although multiple news outlets report that the deceased include parents Mark and Sarah Humiston and their three children. An 11-year-old girl also sustained injuries in the event; she is reported to be in “satisfactory condition” at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
In a court appearance Tuesday, a judge ruled that the detained suspect cannot have any contact with the surviving victim, who is a teenager. Mellis noted that local police responded swiftly, finding the scene chaotic, with a neighbor attempting to render aid to one of the teenage victims. The police later apprehended the suspect, who did not resist during the arrest.
According to the suspect’s legal representatives, the teenager has no prior criminal history. Authorities have until Thursday to formally charge him. This incident renews the ongoing conversation about gun violence in the U.S. and the troubling increase in mass shootings across the country.
