Germany Accuses Russia of Drone Attack on Leipzig/Halle Airport

German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt has identified Russia as the actors behind a drone carrying an explosive device that was uncovered at Leipzig/Halle Airport on 4 August.

The drone, found close to Ukrainian cargo aircraft, failed to detonate because its detonator malfunctioned. Investigators are also examining the possibility that a second drone collided with a nearby cargo plane.

Dobrindt said the incident followed the “well‑established pattern of Russian hybrid operations in Europe” and warned that Germany might be targeted again.

While security experts had long speculated about Russian involvement, Moscow has so far rejected any role in the attack.

Authorities are still gathering evidence and will publish further details as the investigation progresses.
