A severe winter storm has wreaked havoc across a vast region of the United States, causing multiple fatalities and significant disruptions. As the storm battered areas from Texas to Maine over the weekend, travel was severely impacted, with thousands of flights cancelled or delayed. The National Weather Service reported that some northeast locations received over 20 inches (50.8 cm) of snow in just 24 hours.

Tragically, at least a dozen individuals have lost their lives in various incidents linked to the storm. The situation has been particularly dire in Tennessee, where over 200,000 people found themselves without power due to fallen trees and power lines blocking roads. Residents reported severe challenges, with Nashville Rescue Mission’s vice president, Joy Flores, mentioning they were inundated with calls from those affected by the outages.

In New York City, officials reported eight fatalities between Friday and Monday morning, correlated with the plummeting temperatures accompanying the blizzards. The city's Central Park recorded snow accumulation of 11.4 inches by Monday morning. Meanwhile, in Texas, a teenage girl died in a sledding accident linked to the icy conditions.

The winter storm's reach extended into Canadian territories, with areas like Ontario enduring substantial snowfalls, prompting transportation disruptions and school closures. Toronto Pearson Airport set a new record with 18.1 inches (46 cm) of snowfall on Sunday.

Authorities have issued warnings for yet another potential winter storm set to strike the eastern US as soon as this weekend, predicting heavy precipitation and icy conditions may complicate the recovery from the latest storm.
