Lebanon Reports Three Casualties After Israeli Air Strike on Beirut Suburb

The Lebanese ministry of information said Sunday that an Israeli airstrike hit the Dahieh district of Beirut, killing three civilians and injuring 15 more. Dahieh is a predominantly Muslim neighbourhood that has been a Hezbollah stronghold since the early 2000s.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) claimed the strike was aimed at a “command centre” used by Hezbollah, which they said had launched aerial targets toward Israeli territory. The IDF also defended the action as a response to Hezbollah’s continued attacks in northern Israel.
Footage of the blast shows extensive damage around the building that the Israeli aircraft hit. Lebanese police and emergency responders were on the scene within minutes of the strike.
Senior Iranian officials, who are exposed to the U.S.–Iran deal negotiations, warned that the Israeli strike could undermine a planned agreement “scheduled to get signed” the following day. Iran’s negotiating team has been skeptical of the timing of the deal and has demanded the cessation of Israeli hostilities in Lebanon.
U.S. diplomatic officials have publicly urged Israel to restrict its military actions within Lebanon, aiming to support a broader peace framework that includes a comprehensive deal with Iran. The U.S. also remains a key ally of Israel, raising complex diplomatic stakes.
Since March 2022, when Hezbollah launched rockets into Israel in retaliation for an Israeli strike that killed Iran’s supreme leader, the United States and Iran have engaged in a series of military exchanges. The broader tension has affected shipping in the Gulf, particularly around the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for global oil trade.
While the United States and Iran have agreed to a ceasefire in April, intermittent clashes continue, highlighting the fragility of any lasting peace.
Historically, Iran has been accused by Western nations of pursuing a nuclear weapon, but it has repeatedly denied such allegations, insisting its nuclear program is meant for peaceful purposes.
