Lizzo is ‘relieved’ after judge dismisses lawsuit against her production company
'US pop star Melissa Viviane Jefferson, known professionally as Lizzo, thanked her lawyers and supporters in an Instagram post after a California district judge tossed the remaining claims in a lawsuit filed by former wardrobe assistant Asha Daniels.
'Daniels had alleged that she was subjected to “degradation, forced physical labour, denial of medical care, sexual harassment, and racial harassment” while briefly working for Lizzo’s production outfit, Big Grrrl Big Touring Inc., in 2023. The court noted that the allegations didn’t amount to general hostility toward women in the workplace and were outside the scope of protections typically recognised in the workplace.
'The judge stated that the incidents, though “inappropriate and unprofessional,” did not meet the threshold for a protected activity under the Americans with Disabilities Act, as the injuries reported were not classified as disabilities.
'In the Instagram post, Lizzo wrote, “I’m relieved,” adding that she would continue to fight every claim against her and her businesses, and that her platform would keep spreading positivity and “light to the world.”
'This dismissal follows a 2025 ruling that earlier dismissed a fat‑shaming lawsuit and another lawsuit involving alleged sexual harassment by Lizzo’s former tour dancers. Those cases are still pending.
'The judge also addressed an incident in which Daniels claimed her foot was run over by a heavy clothes rack, concluding it did not qualify as a disability under the relevant law.
'Lizzo’s team denies the allegations and remains engaged in ongoing legal battles. The star’s lawyers and Daniels’ lawyers have been contacted for further comment.
