The House Oversight Committee has released a batch of around 70 photos from the estate of late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. It's the third such release from a tranche of over 95,000 photos the committee has acquired from Epstein's estate. It includes images of quotes from the book Lolita written across a woman's body, and redacted images of women's foreign passports.
This comes hours before the 19 December deadline for the Department of Justice to release all files related to its investigation into Epstein. These new images raise more questions about what exactly the Department of Justice has in its possession, said ranking member of the committee, Robert Garcia.
What's in the images released
Some of the photos released show Epstein with prominent figures such as professor Noam Chomsky and former tech leaders like Bill Gates and Sergey Brin. Previous releases have included images of various influential individuals, all while underscoring that appearing in these photos does not imply any wrongdoing. Many individuals cited have denied involvement in any illegal activities related to Epstein.
Additionally, Democratic members of the House Oversight Committee referred to the release as a necessary step for transparency into Epstein's disturbing activities and network. The images also highlight a wider context with quotes from Lolita appearing written over various parts of women's bodies.
Photo release comes ahead of DOJ deadline
The committee's archive includes thousands of images that are notably diverse in nature, ranging from mundane to graphic. Following a subpoena issued in August, this recent wave of photo disclosures sets the stage for the DOJ's impending disclosures under the Epstein Files Transparency Act. The full scope of what the DOJ will release remains uncertain and is likely to be heavily redacted, mirroring the House Oversight materials.
