On Wednesday, a shooting incident near the White House left two National Guard members critically injured. According to an anonymous law enforcement official, the suspect involved in the altercation, who is now in custody, has incurred injuries that are not life-threatening.

Emergency medical responders were quick to transport all three individuals to nearby hospitals, as stated by Vito Maggiolo, the public information officer for DC Fire and Emergency Services. The area was promptly cordoned off by police, while emergency vehicles with flashing lights were stationed at the scene.

Numerous agents from the U.S. Secret Service and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, alongside National Guard members, maintained a presence in the vicinity. A helicopter was seen landing on the National Mall amidst the response efforts.

The Joint DC Task Force confirmed its involvement in the incident following reports of gunfire, while the Metropolitan Police Department indicated they were still gathering further details.

In the wake of the shooting, Mayor Muriel Bowser emphasized that local officials are actively monitoring the situation. Earlier in the day, she had participated in a Thanksgiving event before addressing the press regarding her decision not to seek re-election.

At the time of the incident, President Donald Trump was reported to be at his golf course in West Palm Beach. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that the administration is aware of the situation and that the President has been briefed.

This incident comes amid increased security measures in Washington, prompted by an emergency order issued by President Trump in August, which federalized local police forces and deployed National Guard troops from several states to patrol the area.
