Eight people were killed in two shootings - at a school and at a home - in the Canadian Rockies town of Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia, this week. Another 27 people were injured, affecting many residents in the small town of just 3,000 people.
Here is what we know about the victims.
Jennifer Jacobs and Emmett Jacobs
The mother of 18-year-old shooting suspect Jesse Van Rootselaar, Jennifer Jacobs, 39, was among the victims. She was found dead alongside her 11-year-old son, Emmett Jacobs, at their residence.
Van Rootselaar was reportedly found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Court documents reveal that Jacobs and her children led a tumultuous life across Canada, often moving between provinces.
Kylie Smith
Among the victims at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School was 12-year-old Kylie Smith. Her family described her as the 'light' of their lives, a talented artist with dreams of attending art school in Toronto.
Abel Mwansa
Also deceased, 12-year-old Abel Mwansa was remembered for his smile and passion for science. His father expressed the devastation of losing his son in such a horrendous act.
Zoey Benoit
Another victim, 12-year-old Zoey Benoit, was noted for her resilience and the joy she brought to her family. Her loved ones are mourning her heartbreaking loss.
Shannda Aviugana-Durand
39-year-old Shannda Aviugana-Durand, who worked at the secondary school, was confirmed dead. The BCGEU shared a tribute recognizing her contributions.

Other fatalities included 12-year-old Ticaria Lampert and 13-year-old Ezekiel Schofield, both students at the school.
Maya Gebala
In addition to those lost, Maya Gebala, 12, was severely injured and remains in critical condition. Her family is requesting prayers for her recovery.
