In brief

Eintracht Frankfurt announced the signing of Joti Chatzialexiou as its new sporting executive, a move seen as part of a youth‑focused strategy. The 50‑year‑old will shift from his role as chief of staff at second‑division side Nuremberg, and his contract runs to June 2030. Frankfurt president Mathias Beck praised Chatzialexiou’s professional fit and experience with the German Football Association.

Eintracht Frankfurt announced on Thursday that Joti Chatzialexiou will take over as the club’s sporting executive, a position he will assume on February 1, 2027, with a contract extending to June 30, 2030.

The hiring signals Frankfurt’s commitment to a youth‑oriented model, according to the German agency Xinhua, which detailed the 50‑year‑old’s responsibilities in overseeing player development and club operations.

Chatzialexiou will depart from his post as chief of staff at 2. Bundesliga club Nuremberg, where he joined in 2024 after a two‑decade career with the German Football Association. He led Nuremberg’s national‑team salary structure and was instrumental in appointing former German international Miroslav Klose as head coach.

"With Joti Chatzialexiou, we are gaining someone who is an excellent fit for our club, both professionally and personally," Frankfurt president and supervisory board chairman Mathias Beck said. "He stands for great professional expertise, clear ideas and a consistent commitment to developing young players."

Xinhua noted that Chatzialexiou’s release clause was activated when he extended his contract with Nuremberg in August, permitting his move even though his previous agreement was set to run until 2028.

His early ties to Frankfurt date back to coaching several local youth teams; the club’s own archives record those connections, which reportedly helped shape the club’s decision to bring him on board.

Frankfurt’s current league position sits in the upper third of the 2. Bundesliga, and the club’s executives anticipate the new sporting executive will accelerate the club’s trajectory toward top‑tier consistency.
