In brief
On November 1, 2026, Vietnam announced a suspension of the special consumption tax on gasoline, effective from Sunday through March 31, 2027. The policy follows a previous zero‑rate period that ran from late March to June 2026, and it remains in force alongside persistent environmental protection tax waivers and value‑added tax exemptions that extend through the end of 2026.
Vietnam announced today that it is eliminating the special consumption tax on all gasoline types through March 31, 2027, a decision documented in a resolution issued the day before the law took effect.
The move applies to regular gasoline as well as B5 and B10 ethanol blends, putting the tax, which had originally been set at ten percent for regular fuel, at zero per liter. The Special Consumption Tax Law, which entered force on July 1 of that year, specified rates of eight percent on E5 biofuel and seven percent on E10 biofuel. Under the new resolution, those rates are suspended for the remainder of the period.
Previously, the tax was reduced to zero from late March until June of 2026 to help calm the domestic market. The environmental protection tax on gasoline and other petroleum products is also at zero Vietnamese dong per liter, and those fuels continue to be exempt from value‑added tax declarations and payments through the end of 2026, according to the report.
