In brief

Xinhua reports that the Johor‑Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS‑SEZ) has attracted US$21.8 billion in approved investments, with nearly 29,000 potential jobs linked to the projects. About 45 % of the investment has been implemented, and the first ministerial meeting in Singapore reaffirmed the commitment to accelerate the zone’s development.

SINGAPORE, Nov. 3 – The Johor‑Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS‑SEZ) announced that it has secured US$21.8 billion in approved investments between January 2025 and June 2026, according to a joint statement by Singapore’s Ministry of National Development and Malaysia’s Ministry of Economy.

The figure translates to 88.83 billion ringgit, underscoring the substantial financial backing behind the cross‑border initiative.

About 45 percent of the approved investments, or 40.3 billion ringgit, had already been implemented at the time of the announcement.

These projects are linked to 28,755 potential employment opportunities, with 12,796 jobs already set to be created by the implemented projects.

The progress was welcomed at the first meeting of the Johor‑Singapore Cooperation Ministerial Committee in Singapore on Monday, where both countries reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation and accelerating the development of the economic zone.

The JS‑SEZ was established under an agreement signed by Malaysia and Singapore in January 2025, marking the beginning of a structured partnership focused on joint growth.

Its strategy combines the availability of land and lower operating costs in Johor, Malaysia’s southernmost state, with Singapore’s strengths in financial services and infrastructure to attract investment.

Both ministries highlighted that the zone’s development supports a broader agenda of regional integration and economic diversification for the two nations.

By fostering a blend of industrial, service, and financial sectors, the JS‑SEZ aims to create a diversified economic ecosystem that can adapt to evolving market demands.

As the partnership moves forward, the authorities emphasize ongoing collaboration to identify further investment opportunities and streamline the implementation process for incoming investors.
