In brief

In a meeting chaired by President Emomali Rahmon, Tajikistan’s presidential press service announced a projected state budget revenue of 80.1 billion somoni ($8.7 billion) for 2027, up 23.2% from the previous year. The plan earmarks 36.7 billion somoni for social spending and projects further revenue gains of 90.2 billion somoni in 2028 and 104.6 billion somoni in 2029. Measures to meet the targets include digitalization, expanding the tax base, clearing arrears, boosting domestic production, and reducing imports.

In a government meeting held on October 30, 2026, President Emomali Rahmon chaired a session where Tajikistan’s state budget revenue for 2027 was announced as 80.1 billion somoni—approximately 8.7 billion U.S. dollars—representing a 23.2% increase from the approved 2026 figure.

During the session, the presidential press service outlined the draft state budget law for the coming year and presented revenue projections for 2028 and 2029, forecasting 90.2 billion somoni in 2028 and 104.6 billion somoni in 2029.

The Treasury allocated 36.7 billion somoni to social spending in 2027, which would account for 44.8% of total budget expenditures.

President Rahmon directed ministries and agencies to adopt several measures aimed at hitting the projected revenue targets, including accelerating digitalization and the implementation of electronic data exchange across government bodies.

In addition to technology upgrades, the President emphasized the need to broaden the tax base and to clear tax arrears that have accumulated over recent years.

Efforts to boost domestic production were also highlighted, coupled with a strategy to reduce imports, all intended to strengthen the country’s fiscal position and achieve the announced revenue growth.

The exchange rate used in the projections was 1 U.S. dollar equal to 9.21 somoni, as noted in the official statements.

The meeting, which reviewed the detailed budget law and financial forecasts, underscored the government’s commitment to fiscal discipline and progressive tax reforms, aiming to secure an expanded revenue stream for public spending in the coming decade.
