Strict measures imposed on Analisa Josefa Corr after drunken brawl incident on Jetstar flight.
On December 29, 2022, a Jetstar flight from Hobart to Sydney experienced a significant disruption caused by Analisa Josefa Corr, daughter of late Philippines dictator Ferdinand Marcos, and her husband, James Alexander Corr. Reports indicate that the couple engaged in a drunken altercation with another passenger, leading to their removal from the aircraft by authorities.
According to statements from police, Ms. Corr and her husband exhibited "disorderly behaviour" characterized by intoxication, which culminated in Ms. Corr allegedly grabbing and shaking another passenger while exiting the aircraft's restroom. Both individuals were subsequently escorted from the flight and charged with not adhering to safety instructions and consuming personal alcohol, rather than that provided by the airline.
While Ms. Corr and her husband have both pleaded not guilty to these charges, they agreed to an alcohol ban during their bail period. Should they be found guilty, each faces fines approaching A$13,750 (approximately $8,520; £6,925) for their actions. Additionally, Ms. Corr faces a more serious charge of assault, which may result in up to two years in prison if convicted.
The couple has been requested to post A$20,000 in bail, with the understanding that this amount would be forfeited in case of a breach in their conditions. Ms. Corr, 53, is noted as being the half-sister of the current President of the Philippines, Ferdinand Marcos Jr., and identifies herself as an interior designer on Instagram. Her husband, Mr. Corr, 45, has prior service in the military, according to Australian media outlets.
In light of this incident, the Australian Federal Police (AFP) released a statement emphasizing the importance of appropriate conduct among travelers, particularly during holiday seasons when airport traffic surges. Sergeant Luke Stockwell warned travelers against engaging in disruptive behaviour, noting that increased patrols at major airports would monitor compliance with safety regulations.
While Jetstar airline did not issue a specific comment regarding the incident involving the Corrs, a spokesperson for the company reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring the safety of both passengers and crew members. The spokesperson stated, "The safety and wellbeing of customers and crew is our number one priority," while reinforcing the airline's zero-tolerance policy towards any disruptive conduct.
