On March 4, 2026, Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) publicly called for Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter to testify before the House Oversight Committee after his name surfaced in newly reviewed federal materials tied to the Jeffrey Epstein investigation. Mace stated that the committee “needs to bring in more individuals to more thoroughly continue the Epstein investigation,” listing Carter among them. Rolling Out reported that subpoenas could follow if warranted by the evidence.

The Document Implicating Jay-Z

Carter’s name appears in a DOJ-released FBI crisis intake report, where an anonymous victim alleged having been drugged and sexually abused, revealing she woke up in a room with both Harvey Weinstein and Jay-Z. Variety confirmed that the mention was part of the broader Epstein investigation. Mace noted she had personally reviewed these documents, although she did not present any sworn statements along with her public remarks.

Alex Spiro: The Lawyer in Epstein’s Orbit

The implications extend far beyond a solitary FBI report—revolving around Carter’s personal attorney, Alex Spiro.

Spiro is frequently mentioned in Epstein’s communications, with a DOJ file referring to him as a “Stone Cold Killer.” Epstein’s correspondence from January 2019 discusses Spiro in association with the defense for Harvey Weinstein alongside attorney Benjamin Brafman, who has a long history representing Sean “Diddy” Combs. On April 1, 2019, Epstein inquired of former White House Counsel Kathryn Ruemmler whether he should hire Spiro; three days later, he confirmed a meeting with “Alex Spiro and Bannon,” referencing former Trump strategist Steve Bannon, who had recommended Spiro.

As of now, Spiro serves as Jay-Z’s personal attorney and counsel for Roc Nation, recently attempting to dismiss a civil lawsuit alleging Carter and Combs had sexually assaulted a 13-year-old girl during a 2000 MTV afterparty.

The Diddy Parallel

Carter’s exposure is closely related to the downfall of his longtime associate, Sean “Diddy” Combs, currently serving a 50-month federal sentence for transportation to engage in prostitution. Their intertwined empires spanned decades, with shared events, networks, and legal representation, which raises crucial questions about how deep their connections run. Spiro has been accused of targeting whistleblowers and using lawsuits to silence discussions about the alleged misconduct of the two men.

Dead Witnesses

A complex layer of uncertainty is added following the mysterious death of Russian businessman Umar Dzhabrailov, discovered dead in Moscow from a gunshot wound, ruled a suicide despite his daughter questioning the circumstances. Dzhabrailov maintained links with both Carter and Combs during social events and had a significant relationship with Ghislaine Maxwell, calling her his “soulmate.” His name appeared in the recent DOJ documents prior to his death.

Despite these developments, Carter remains a major cultural force. Since 2019, Roc Nation has influenced the NFL Super Bowl halftime show—the most-watched entertainment spectacle in America—with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell acknowledging he does not contest Carter’s selections. The significant institutional authority held by a man named in Epstein-related federal documents and who is now facing potential congressional scrutiny raises urgent inquiries about elite accountability.

What Comes Next

As of March 5, 2026, Carter has not been formally charged or subpoenaed. His lawyer has dismissed all allegations as unfounded. However, the landscape of accountability has shifted: a Congress member has called him out; DOJ documents now connect him to Epstein’s investigation; his attorney was noted in Epstein’s communications, and his closest associate is serving a federal term. The Oversight Committee possesses the relevant documents and Rep. Mace has issued her call. The key inquiry now is whether Shawn Carter will respond.
