Adeniyi Kayode, the chauffeur who was driving Anthony Joshua when their vehicle crashed and killed two of the boxer's friends, appeared in a Nigerian court on Tuesday.

Kayode, aged 46, faces charges related to the incident, including death by dangerous driving, which commenced after the crash occurred on December 29, leaving Joshua's personal trainer, Latif Ayodele, and strength coach, Sina Ghami, dead following a collision with a stationary lorry near Lagos.

The court appearance took place at the Sagamu Magistrates Court in Ogun State, where the proceedings were delayed until February 25, 2026, to allow the prosecution to acquire further legal advice.

Dressed in a black hoodie and trousers, Kayode did not make any statements during the brief hearing. He had previously been released on bail set at 5 million Naira (approximately $3,500).

Joshua, a noted heavyweight champion, was hospitalized but released two days post-accident, while both Ayodele and Ghami were pronounced dead at the scene. Joshua later shared an emotional tribute on social media, reflecting on the impact that both men had on his life and noting the profound loss their families are facing.

Following the incident, Joshua was en route to visit his relatives in Sagamu for New Year celebrations, highlighting personal ties to the region.

Kayode is facing significant legal implications, charged with causing death by dangerous driving, along with reckless and negligent driving, and other related offenses.
