WILMINGTON, Del. — William Stevenson, age 77, has been indicted on first-degree murder charges in the death of his 64-year-old wife, Linda Stevenson. The incident, deemed noteworthy due to Stevenson’s past marriage to former First Lady Jill Biden, has drawn significant public and media attention.
Authorities reported that Linda was found unresponsive at their home in Wilmington on December 28 following a domestic dispute. Despite efforts to revive her, she was pronounced dead at the scene. The investigation into her death lasted several weeks, leading to the recent indictment.
Stevenson remains in custody after failing to post a $500,000 bail. Details surrounding the motive for the alleged murder have yet to be disclosed by law enforcement officials.
The couple's tumultuous history has been highlighted by media outlets since news of the charges broke. Stevenson previously criticized Jill Biden in an interview, recounting a contentious divorce and describing her as ‘bitter.’ He ran a local music venue, the Stone Balloon, in the 1970s, establishing a mark in the community.
Linda was remembered in her obituary as a family-oriented individual and an avid Philadelphia Eagles fan, though it notably omitted mention of her husband, Stevenson.
While Joe Biden’s office has not commented on the matter, the association with high-profile figures continues to draw scrutiny. Stevenson’s prior connection to Jill Biden adds a layer of complexity to the case amid ongoing discussions about domestic violence and justice.
