This week, sky-watchers around the world were captivated by a spectacular supermoon, which appeared unusually bright and large in the evening sky. A 'supermoon' occurs when the moon is at its perigee, the point in its orbit closest to Earth.

The October supermoon is also popularly known as the Hunter's Moon, attributed to the first full moon of October, symbolizing the historic time for hunting and preparations for the winter months in the Northern Hemisphere. Additionally, it's referred to as the Harvest Moon, the full moon closest to the autumn equinox, historically helping farmers gather crops in the evening light.

From iconic landmarks to everyday scenes, images of the supermoon showcased its majestic presence. In Paris, it beautifully aligned with the Eiffel Tower, while in Spain, it illuminated the windmills of Ciudad Real. Other notable sightings included breathtaking views from Taipei and the National Mall in Washington, D.C.

The supermoon also coincided with cultural events, such as the Mid-Autumn Festival in China, where it illuminated various festivities and scenes in cities like Suzhou and Jinhua.

If you missed this enchanting spectacle, don't worry! Two more supermoons are expected in November and December, promising more opportunities to witness the awe-inspiring beauty of the night sky.
