One year after Bangladesh jet crash at Milestone School, families demand answers
On 21 July 2025 a Bangladesh Air Force training jet crashed into Milestone School in Dhaka, killing 36 people, most of whom were children. An investigation report has highlighted building code violations, inadequate pilot training and no mechanical fault, yet the government has not released the findings publicly.
Hundreds of students, many with burn injuries, gathered this week to remember the victims. Families are demanding transparency and compensation despite promises of support from health officials and the state.
The report cites a one‑door layout for an 800‑student school, the presence of more than 600 nearby buildings that violate height limits, and the lack of proper supervision of the pilot during the training flight.
Survivors face not only physical recovery but also psychological trauma. Student Nure Jannat Yusha lost interest in school and now struggles to sleep, while many others report memory and learning difficulties.
Political leaders, including prime minister spouse Zubaida Rahman, praised the courage of survivors, but families insist that the full investigative report be made public and that concrete support be provided for affected children and their families.
