On the one-month anniversary of Renee Good's death at the hands of an immigration officer, protests emerged in Minneapolis, leading to several arrests. MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Tensions erupted on Saturday in Minneapolis when police detained several demonstrators outside a federal building during protests commemorating the one-month anniversary of Renee Good’s death caused by an immigration officer.

Good was killed on January 7, having reportedly attempted to flee from immigration officers in her vehicle. Her death, alongside that of Alex Pretti, which occurred shortly thereafter, has ignited a firestorm of protests across the nation against the Trump administration's immigration crackdowns.

Amidst the demonstrations, protesters gathered outside the Bishop Henry Whipple Federal Building, throwing various objects, including bottles and ice chunks, at law enforcement. Reports from the Minnesota Star Tribune noted that at least a few protestors were arrested after police deemed the gathering unlawful amidst increased tension.

Many demonstrators complied with the evacuation order given by authorities, yet hundreds chose to remain in a standoff with police from various agencies, including state troopers and conservation officers.

The incident has since been characterized disputably, with local officials challenging the narrative conveyed by the Trump administration, which labeled Good as a domestic threat.

Following the death of Pretti, who passed away on January 24 during another confrontation with immigration officials, the criticism towards immigration enforcement intensified further.
