PROVIDENCE, R.I. — In the wake of a devastating shooting at Brown University that resulted in the deaths of two students and injuries to nine others, local authorities are urging the public to assist in the investigation by providing any available footage of the perpetrator. While investigators have released a new timeline and a clearer image of the potential suspect, they still lack concrete leads on his identity.

The suspect has only been vaguely described as stocky, approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall, and appeared masked or turned away in the footage provided thus far. Surveillance videos showed an individual in dark clothing walking around the area shortly after 2 p.m. on the day of the shooting, but all attempts to identify him have thus far been unsuccessful.

Providence Police Chief Col. Oscar Perez stated that the police have received around 200 tips and requested anyone with relevant footage in the vicinity to check their security systems for helpful evidence. He emphasized the need for footage that could potentially reveal critical moments in the chaotic situation.

Despite having a significant number of security cameras on campus, Brown University's President Christina Paxson confirmed that there is no clear video evidence of the shooter’s actions from inside the engineering building where the incident occurred. This has left both law enforcement and community members frustrated, raising concerns over campus security protocols.

Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha acknowledged the ongoing investigation's complexity and urged the public to remain patient while officials work to uncover the shooter's motives, although he refrained from making any assertions about possible ethnic or political connections to the violence.

As the community processes the shock of the event, approximately 200 attendees came together at a church service held on campus to honor the victims. Alumnus Chris Kremer, who lived near the shooting site, spoke about the solace that gathering provides in the face of tragedy.

The incident has also spurred conversations about campus security measures, including calls for improved locking systems on doors. While Brown University activated its emergency communication system during the shooting, questions remain about the effectiveness of the response, particularly regarding the university's siren system, which was not utilized at that time.

With tensions palpable in Providence, local authorities increased police presence in schools to reassure parents of student safety following the tragic event. Some school activities have been suspended as a precaution, eliciting mixed feelings among locals. While some express fear, others advocate for resilience, rejecting the idea of letting the shooter instill fear in the community.

As the investigation continues, more details are emerging about the victims. The deceased students include Ella Cook, a valued member of the Brown College Republicans, and MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, who was majoring in biochemistry and neuroscience. The university and surrounding community remain united in mourning those affected by this senseless act of violence.
