A Russian strike has killed at least four people, including three young children, in a town west of Kharkiv, a Ukrainian official says.
Oleg Synegubov, head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, reported that the victims included two one-year-old boys, a two-year-old girl, and a 34-year-old man, all killed when a drone struck the house where they were located.
In addition, a 35-year-old pregnant woman and a 76-year-old woman sustained injuries during the attack in Bohodukhiv, as confirmed by Synegubov.
This incident took place as Moscow renewed its military strikes following a week-long hiatus, coinciding with extreme cold weather conditions affecting Ukraine.
Simultaneously, Russian forces reportedly dropped bombs in the city of Slovyansk, resulting in more casualties, including that of an 11-year-old girl.
The escalation of violence includes targeted strikes against transport and energy infrastructure, exacerbating difficulties for residents in Kharkiv and surrounding regions. President Volodymyr Zelensky has stated that a state of emergency has been declared due to the energy crisis in the area, following what was termed a 'political truce' observed during the recent cold snap.
Internationally, discussions are ongoing regarding ending the conflict, with a focus on potential talks in the United States aimed at establishing a ceasefire. Amid the increasing military pressure, the humanitarian implications of these strikes continue to raise global concerns.
