In brief

Seattle‑based metal group Demon Hunter has filed a lawsuit against Netflix, claiming that the streaming platform’s title and planned live tour infringe on its trademark. The complaint cites a $500 ticket purchase made in New York by a parent mistakenly thinking it was a child‑friendly K‑pop event. Netflix has registered the name “Kpop Demon Hunters” for merchandise and pending trademarks. The case underscores rising disputes over intellectual property amid the booming K‑pop‑driven streaming market.

The Seattle‑based metal group has taken legal action against Netflix, alleging that the streaming platform’s animated movie and planned live tour, titled Kpop Demon Hunters, infringe on its trademark and create confusion among fans.

The band, which has released 12 albums in 25 years and boasts 350,000 Spotify listeners, says the use of the term “Demons” and the word “Hunter” in the Netflix property is too close to its own brand.

Hyde Lane, the company that handles Demon Hunter’s business, filed a complaint citing a 500‑dollar ticket purchase in New York that was mistaken for the Kpop show by a parent who thought it was a child‑friendly event.

Netflix has registered “Kpop Demon Hunters” for merchandise and pending trademark work. The lawsuit requests a halt to the use of the name in any of Netflix’s media, live events and merchandising, as well as monetary damages.

The case highlights growing tensions over intellectual property in entertainment and reflects the clash between Western rock brands and the rapidly expanding K‑pop‑powered streaming content.

For now, the dispute remains unresolved as both sides await court rulings.
