Sabrina Carpenter secures temporary restraining order amid alleged stalking incidents

Pop singer Sabrina Carpenter, 27, has obtained a temporary restraining order against a man named William Applegate following several incidents in which he allegedly trespassed onto her property in Los Angeles. The order, granted by a judge on Friday, requires Applegate to stay at least 100 yards from Carpenter’s home, car, workplace and the homes of her sister and her sister’s boyfriend.

According to court documents obtained by the BBC’s U.S. partner CBS, Carpenter’s lawyers presented a signed declaration stating that Applegate tried to force his way into her house following a visit to a neighboring property. Carpenter described the encounters as “deeply alarming” and said they had left her with ongoing fear for her personal safety. The declaration cited:

  • An attempted break‑in on 23 May after Applegate entered a neighbour’s property.

  • Three subsequent visits: one less than 24 hours after the first, during which he loitered outside, and a second the next day, during which he parked outside her home.

  • Applegate’s claim that he knew Carpenter and that she was expecting him, which Carpenter denied as false.

Carpenter also filed a doorbell‑camera video that shows the incidents, which the judge considered when granting the restraining order. She has requested the order to protect herself, her sister, and the sister’s boyfriend.

Detective Peter Doomanis of the Los Angeles Police Department, who supported Carpenter’s petition, described Applegate as having “developed a disturbing and irrational fixation on the petitioner.” He also highlighted the pattern of Applegate’s behavior that extended back to April 2026, calling it “well‑documented stalking behaviour.”

The temporary order remains in effect until a full court decision. A follow‑up hearing is scheduled for 17 June, and Applegate is due in criminal court on 18 June for alleged criminal trespassing. Meanwhile, Sabrina Carpenter continues to focus on her music career, with recent releases including the singles “Espresso,” “Please Please Please,” “Taste,” and “Manchild.”
