A Palestinian man was shot dead by an Israeli during a settler attack on a village in the occupied West Bank on Wednesday evening. A relative said Alaa Khalid Subeih, 28, was killed as he tried to defend a greenhouse from the settlers in Tayasir in the northern West Bank. A senior UN official also stated he was killed by a settler.
The Israeli military reported that Subeih was shot by an off-duty soldier who accused him of throwing stones. Tayasir has recently experienced increased violence from settlers, and the Israeli settlements there are deemed illegal under international law.
The killing of Subeih has raised alarms regarding settler violence, as former Israeli security officials warned that government-sponsored Jewish terrorism was rampant in the West Bank. Reports indicate that the Israeli government has approved dozens of new settlements, exacerbating tensions in the already volatile region.
In a concerning twist, Alaa's family claims his body has not yet been returned, deepening their grief as they seek closure.
