A Russian drone and missile strike on the Ukrainian capital Kyiv has killed at least one person and injured seven others, city officials say.

Early on Saturday morning, residential buildings in several districts were hit and loud explosions could be heard across the city.

Kyiv's mayor Vitaly Klitschko confirmed a 13-year-old child was among the injured and four people had been hospitalized.

Earlier this week, a similar attack on Kyiv claimed seven lives, according to Ukrainian officials. The most recent bombardment coincided with Ukrainian negotiators preparing for talks with US officials regarding an amended peace proposal.

The head of Kyiv's military administration, Tymur Tkachenko, stated the strike hit 'multiple targets on the capital's outskirts.' He noted a total of one dead and seven injured, including a child.

Rescuers recovered the body of a man from the Sviatoshynskyi district west of the city. Additionally, two women were injured in the town of Brovary, which was also targeted.

Klitschko reported that the strike caused a fire in the lower floors of a high-rise apartment block and that another blaze was quickly controlled in a central district. Earlier in the week, intense strikes resulted in deaths in both Kyiv and Russia's Rostov region.

This attack comes amid President Donald Trump's initiative for both sides to accept a heavily modified draft peace plan that includes a balance of demands. President Vladimir Putin emphasized that Russia would cease its military actions only if Ukrainian troops withdraw from territories claimed by Moscow.

Putin's statement was followed by news that a US delegation is expected in Moscow next week to discuss this draft peace plan after revisions were made during talks in Geneva.

President Zelensky mentioned in a recent video address that US and Ukrainian delegations aim to form points discussed in Geneva into a draft that would lead towards peace and security guarantees.
