Five Palestinians were killed, including two children, and several others injured when Israeli aircraft struck tents for displaced people west of Khan Younis, as reported by medics at the Kuwait Field Hospital.
The strikes hit Gaza's coastal al-Mawasi area, targeting a cluster of tents that has housed hundreds of displaced individuals in recent months. Medical teams indicated that among the dead were two women aged 46 and 30, a 36-year-old man, and two boys aged eight and ten. Approximately 32 injured individuals were treated in hospital following the incident.
Witnesses recounted that the initial strike had aimed at a tent within the displacement area, followed by explosions near the Kuwait hospital, which sparked widespread panic among families seeking shelter.
The Israeli military stated that the action followed an attack by Hamas that resulted in injuries to five Israeli soldiers, claiming to have struck a Hamas terrorist. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu pledged to respond decisively to such threats.
In stark opposition, Hamas condemned the Israeli military's actions, describing them as barbaric, indiscriminate, and a breach of the ceasefire established on October 10.
This latest violence underscores the escalating conflict that erupted following a Hamas-led assault on southern Israel on October 7, leading to the deaths of around 1,200 people and more than 251 kidnappings, according to official reports. Since then, over 70,100 Palestinians have reportedly been killed as a result of Israel's military response, according to the territory's Hamas-run health ministry.
