The U.S. Justice Department has made public millions of documents related to its investigations of Jeffrey Epstein as part of a move towards transparency following public and political pressure.

On Friday, the Justice Department unveiled over 3 million pages of documents, alongside thousands of videos and images, linked to investigations of the late financier Jeffrey Epstein. The release comes as part of the Epstein Files Transparency Act, aimed at providing details on Epstein’s crimes and connections with powerful individuals. The files are subject to redaction to protect victims’ identities, and the release follows a series of deadlines missed by the department. Both Donald Trump and Bill Clinton, who've previously been associated with Epstein, deny any wrongdoing.

NEW YORK — The Justice Department made a significant move on Friday by releasing a trove of investigative records tied to Jeffrey Epstein, a financier notorious for his sexual abuse of underage girls. This release consists of more than 3 million pages of documents along with over 2,000 videos and 180,000 images, indicating the government's effort towards transparency under the Epstein Files Transparency Act.

Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche remarked that this comprehensive disclosure marks the conclusion of a thorough document identification and review process. “Today’s release ensures transparency to the American people and complies with the Epstein Files Transparency Act,” he added during a news conference.

This act was enacted in response to extensive public and political pressure to unveil what the government knew regarding Epstein and his associates, including Ghislaine Maxwell.

The recent release follows a delay in meeting a December 19 deadline, during which the Justice Department indicated it employed hundreds of lawyers to review the records, focusing on necessary redactions to safeguard the identities of victims involved in the investigations.

Blanche confirmed that while the department strives for transparency, certain details remain withheld, particularly those that could hinder ongoing investigations or expose victims' identities.

The documents' breadth has escalated to around six million pages, including duplicates due to the complexities involved in handling these files. Earlier releases have included flight logs linking Donald Trump to Epstein’s private jet in the 1990s and photographs featuring former President Bill Clinton. Both Trump and Clinton have previously distanced themselves from any accusations of wrongdoing associated with Epstein, claiming ignorance of his illegal activities.

The department's ongoing investigations into Epstein’s actions and his network have drawn significant public interest, especially following the allegations from his victims detailing abuse under his regime.
