Ukraine Claims Missile Strike on Russian Military Plant in Cheboksary
The Ukrainian Armed Forces say they launched FP‑5 Flamingo cruise missiles that struck a drone and missile production facility in the Russian city of Cheboksary, the Chuvash Republic, more than 900 km from the front lines.
President Volodymyr Zelensky posted on Telegram that the strike “aftermath shows smoke from the site” and that the VNIIR‑Progress plant – which supplies components for Russian drones and missiles – was on fire.
Local authorities in Cheboksary report three people were injured in the attack, with no confirmation yet of full damage to the plant.
This is part of a broader campaign by Ukraine, which says energy infrastructure in occupied territories is a legitimate target. Earlier this month, the Ukrainian army reported successful drone attacks on oil refineries in Samara and a ship in the Black Sea.
Russian forces claim many of the drones were intercepted; the Ukrainian air force reports downing 181 of 207 drones launched that night.
The Kremlin, led by President Vladimir Putin, has dismissed any talks and insists Russian troops are advancing everywhere, a claim that observers say clashes have been largely static.
In the backdrop, the ongoing conflict has drawn international attention to the escalation of missile capabilities and the stakes of a negotiated settlement.
