Many of the groups that supported Donald Trump during his election as president are now expressing substantial dissatisfaction with his performance, according to a recent AP-NORC poll. The survey indicates that pivotal demographics, including Hispanic adults, younger voters, and men, are increasingly critical of his presidency. This discontent has grown amid rising economic concerns, particularly linked to fluctuating oil prices resulting from ongoing geopolitical tensions, notably the Iran war.

Conducted from April 16 through April 20, the poll surveyed over 2,500 U.S. adults and reveals a stark decline in approval rates. For instance, Trump’s approval rating among Hispanic adults has plummeted by 16 percentage points since March 2025, with just one-quarter expressing support now. This downward trend is echoed among young adults, where his overall approval has diminished from 39% to 28% in the same timeframe.

The economic landscape plays a crucial role in shaping these perceptions. Many respondents exhibit a lack of confidence in Trump's management of the economy; notably, only 20% of individuals under 45 approve of his economic strategies. Discontent regarding immigration policies appears to further compound dissatisfaction, especially among younger Hispanic voters—only 18% approve of Trump’s handling of immigration issues.

Despite this growing discontent, Trump's base remains supportive, with around two-thirds of Republicans still backing him. However, recent polling suggests that approval is waning even among loyalists; approximately 50% of Republicans express dissatisfaction specifically regarding his management of the cost of living.

As the midterm elections approach, the rising issues influencing key demographics could pose significant challenges for Trump, indicating that while he retains a solid core of support, further declines in approval could jeopardize his future political strategies.
