A suicide attack outside a court in Pakistan's capital Islamabad has killed 12 people and injured at least 27 more, according to the country's interior minister.
Mohsin Naqvi reported that a bomber planned to attack the district courthouse but was unable to gain entry.
He stated that authorities are prioritizing the identification of the bomber and emphasized that those involved would be brought to justice.
Such suicide blasts have been rare in Islamabad in recent years. Footage from the scene depicted a burnt-out car and a police cordon established following the explosion.
The 27 injured individuals are currently receiving medical treatment, according to Naqvi. The attacker reportedly detonated the bomb near a police vehicle after waiting for approximately 15 minutes.
Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari condemned the suicide blast, expressing deep concern over the violence.
Eyewitness accounts describe the moment of the explosion. A lawyer, who was parking outside the court at the time, reported hearing a loud bang and witnessing immediate chaos.
Rustam Malik told AFP news agency, It was complete chaos. Lawyers and people were running inside the complex. I saw two dead bodies lying at the gate, and several cars were on fire.
